The New York State Trauma Informed Network and Resource Center (NYS TINRC) which is funded by NYS OMH, promotes learning, growing, and the deepening of knowledge. It creates and enhances partnerships, builds and supports communities, and furthers the understanding of trauma, trauma-responsive practices, wellness, and well-being.
Breath-Body-Mind™ is a set of gentle exercises that are based on science and designed to help with stress. They can improve your mental health and wellness.
ALL of the BBM Practice sessions, trainings, and opportunities are available to all New Yorkers and are free of charge.
Breath-Body-Mind Level 2 Teacher Training (40 hours)
This course is for participants who want to further develop and enhance their personal Breath-Body-Mind™ (BBM) practice, and develop the skills to safely and effectively instruct a wider range of BBM practices with clients and groups.
This Level-Two BBM Teacher Training is suitable for healthcare professionals, coaches, practitioners, therapists, yoga and meditation teachers, school teachers, military, first responders, EMTs, police, firefighters, disaster relief workers, and service organizations.
The benefits of Breath-Body-Mind™ have been shown to increase resilience and reduce the effects of stress in surveys of participating health care practitioners, individuals with mental health and medical conditions, children, veterans, active-duty military, and survivors of disasters.
About the BBM Level 2 training:
In this second of the four-level BBM teacher training sequence, you learn to teach the core BBM techniques to individuals for stress, coping with COVID, anxiety disorders, PTSD, military trauma, post-disaster, depression, ADHD, and stress-related medical conditions. Specific methods taught in this program include:
- Enhancing and Refining your Level-One BBM Instructor skills.
- Activating Ha breaths.
- Breathing practices with movement.
- Coherent Breathing.
- Breath Moving Circuits.
- 4-2-4-2 and 4-4-6-2 breathing variations.
- Alternate Nostril Breathing.
- Two Golden Wheels
- Shaking
- Sky and Earth
- Trauma-sensitive BBM teaching skills.
- Breathing challenge awareness and coaching skills.
- Adapting and Sequencing BBM practices for a range of individuals, groups and
- populations.
- Precautions in teaching individuals with psychiatric and medical conditions.
- Integration Breath Practices with coaching, therapy and a range of wellbeing methodologies.
- Advanced practices for your personal enjoyment, regulation and benefit.
Increase your understanding of neurophysiological effects of voluntarily regulated breathing practices on emotion regulation, bonding, and cognitive function. Practice teaching while BBM teachers observe and offer suggestions for improvement and professional development. Attention is given to creating a safe container, tone of voice, pacing, the accuracy of instruction, and trauma-sensitivity.
Trained teachers will:
- Teach the core and adapted BBM practices to individuals and groups
- Assist in teaching BBM Introductory and Level One Courses
- Conduct BBM group practice sessions
- Offer guidance to beginners and intermediate students in these techniques of self-regulation.
- Help develop programs in your communities and workplaces.
Participants who complete all sessions and who demonstrate competence in teaching BBM core techniques will receive Breath-Body-Mind Level-Two Teacher Certification. Those who are not able to demonstrate competence by the end of this training will receive a provisional certificate and be encouraged to attend additional weekly practice sessions to complete certification.
Preparing for your BBM Teacher Training Course
- A regular personal practice of Coherent Breathing (20 minutes per day, 5–7 days per week)
- Re-read your BBM Fundamentals and Level-One BBM Instructor Manual
- Attend a minimum of 6 hours of BBM group practice sessions.
- Read, listen to or re-visit The Healing Power of the Breath
To achieve level two BBM Instructor Certification you will need to:
- Complete 18-hours - BBM Fundamentals Course (12 hours) + 6-hours BBM practice sessions.
- Complete 40-hours BBM Level One Instructor Training - 36 hours live online training, plus 4 hours pre-recorded sessions.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively guide others in Fundamental BBM practices
Full attendance is essential to gain the necessary teaching skills. If you will miss a session, please notify the instructors promptly. Those who are unable to demonstrate competence by the end of this training will be able to attend additional weekly practice sessions towards certification.
